Some time this afternoon, while watching TV, I decided to delete my Fedora Core partition, but before that, I went online to see some information on fixing the bootloader. Well, when I deleted my OpenSuSE partition, my system messed up because, as I said in my earlier post, my laptop knew that there were two OSs running, but because I deleted my Linux partition, the laptop didn’t want to load because it was basically corrupted.
What I found out today was that I needed to fix the bootloader. So, after deleting my Fedora Core partition, I defragged and cleaned (CHKDSK) my harddrive. Then, when it finished defragging, I restarted my laptop. As I expected, my laptop didn’t want to load. So, I inserted my XP installation CD as directed by some guy in an online forum. I made sure that I wanted to repair my Windows XP boot method; then, I had to type FIXMBR.
Everything was in DOS format, when reparing my XP (I’m glad I’m familiar with MS-DOS). I did every step carefully, but I was prompted for an administrator password. I was glad that I changed the password ahead of time. So, I entered it and typed FIXMBR. It said that the previous (Linux) partition wouldn’t be accessible if I really changed it. Well, I already deleted it, so I clicked “Yes.” Not long after that, my XP boot method went back to normal. I won today!!!
As soon as my system checked the disk, I reinstalled OpenSuSE. This time, I did the installation differently. I added a network printer, hoping that OpenSuSE would “see” my printer. Thank God, OpenSuSE can see my printer. After I finished installing and configuring my OpenSuSE, I tested the printer. It worked very well. I also did online update to OpenSuSE 10.2. It worked pretty well too, compared to the previous installation processes.
Even so, I still can’t figure out how to play my music collection in OpenSuSE (I can’t play .wma file either). I may need to do some tweaking, but Linux registry is different from Windows’. I also can’t play DVD, so I really need to take care of these two stuff.
I decided today, that, although I can use OpenSuSE the way I want it, I’m going to keep my Windows XP. Soon, I might buy a book on Windows registry, so I can hack my XP. Man, it’s going to be some fun stuff!
